About Dr. Murata

Dr. Murata is a licensed clinical psychologist in Hawai'i. She received her master’s degree in psychology from American University in Washington, DC and holds a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. Her local roots led her to Kaua'i and ultimately to Honolulu where she completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship, respectively.

Dr. Murata provides individual psychotherapy for adults (18 to 64 years of age). Dr. Murata has worked with a wide range of challenges, and specializes in working with patients to overcome trauma, grief, adjustment periods/transitions, relationship issues, anxiety, and depression.

She works in collaboration with you to resolve issues and find a sense of empowerment over life’s challenges. Dr. Murata creates an understanding environment with her patients to reduce stress and establish a sense of balance and well-being.

Dr. Murata does not work with couples or families, at this time. Currently, Dr. Murata accepts the following insurances: HMSA (and Quest), UHA, and HMAA.

How long does each therapy session take?

Sessions last approximately 50 - 55 minutes.

What insurances do you accept?

Dr. Murata accepts HMSA (and Quest), UHA, and HMAA.

How much does psychotherapy cost?

Your copay/coinsurance is typically the same for psychotherapy as it is for you to see your regular physician, plus tax. 
If you do not have insurance, Dr. Murata's fee is $150 per session, sliding scale available. Please schedule an appointment to discuss the sliding scale further.

How long will I be in therapy?

Psychotherapy is an individual process, and although Dr. Murata seeks to be as efficient and effective as possible, everyone's individual needs and goals will be different depending on the complexity of the challenges your are facing.

What if you do not accept my insurance or do not specialize in my area of need?

Will you write me an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letter for my pet?

Dr. Murata does not provide ESA letters.
